See Through Trio is composed of Tania Gill on piano, Mark Laver on saxophone, and Pete Johnston on bass. Based in Toronto, the members of the trio share a mutual interest in exploring collective improvisation and collaborative composition. See Through Trio’s compositions encompass a diverse range of influences, from the 1960s jazz avant-garde of Carla Bley and Ornette Coleman, to psychedelic British folk, to the abstract contrapuntal music of Anton Webern. These distinct sounds are connected by the playful deconstructionist spirit of jazz, which is the primary motivator for the Trio’s music. See Through Trio performs frequently in Toronto, and has undertaken tours of the East and West coasts of Canada. Their debut CD Our Own Devices was released in June 2007, and their most recent recording is titled Lines and Spaces (2009).
